On November 2, 1952, the first four Scalabrinian missionaries set foot in Australia. During this pioneering chapter, they assisted local archdioceses and parishes in the pastoral care of Italian immigrants who were arriving in vast numbers following World War II, initially operating under the administrative accompaniment of the North American Provinces.

The missionaries traveled tirelessly to isolated rural communities, farms, and sugarcane plantations across Queensland, Tasmania, and New South Wales. They walked alongside immigrant laborers to help them conquer severe language barriers, cultural displacement, and social isolation while preserving their Catholic faith and family traditions.

Establishment of the St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Province: The Province was officially constituted in Australia, placing its future under the heavenly patronage of Mother Cabrini. This canonical act established autonomous missionary governance and fostered rapid institutional development across Oceania.

By 1962, the Province expanded to 22 missionary priests administering active pastoral ministries across 10 large parishes and 3 immigrant welcome centers in major metropolitan centers: Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Newcastle, and Wollongong.

Launching Scalabrini Villages: Recognizing the poignant plight of elderly migrants confronting isolation, dementia, and language barriers, the Province established innovative residential aged-care facilities—notably the renowned Scalabrini Villages in New South Wales and Villaggio San Carlo in Victoria. This holistic care model preserved cultural roots, spiritual solace, and dignified living for immigrant elders.

Arrival in the Philippines: The Province officially expanded to Asia, establishing its primary center in Manila. Confreres founded international theological seminaries, migrant parishes, and the prestigious Scalabrini Migration Center (SMC), which quickly emerged as Asia's premier research authority publishing the Asian and Pacific Migration Journal and advocating for migrant worker rights.

Apostolic works extended into Taiwan, Japan, and Indonesia. Pastoral missions focused intently on factory workers, domestic helpers, cross-border marriage migrants, and maritime crews supported through the Stella Maris Apostleship of the Sea.

Presence in Vietnam: Following pastoral exploratory visits initiated in 2003, the Province established its canonical presence in Vietnam in 2005. The mission was initially dedicated to vocation accompaniment, forming local young men drawn to the Scalabrinian charism of service to the uprooted.

Inauguration of Thu Duc Seminary: In response to a remarkable surge in candidates, the Province constructed and opened the modern Scalabrini Academy in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City. This institution became a vibrant center for philosophical, theological, and spiritual formation.

Advocacy & Compassionate Shelter: Scalabrinian priests were appointed to collaborate directly with the Episcopal Commission for Migrants and Itinerant People of Vietnam (ECMI). Simultaneously, the Scalabrini Shelter (Fatima House) opened in Ho Chi Minh City, offering secure temporary housing, legal counsel, and emergency assistance to vulnerable internal migrants and students.

20 Years of Abundant Fruit: Celebrating two decades of missionary vitality in Vietnam, the Province has formed, ordained, and commissioned over 48 Vietnamese Scalabrinian missionary priests who now serve in migrant communities across five continents. Vietnam has matured into one of the most fruitful vocational cradles for the universal Congregation.
